• Whilst walking in Europe we have been impressed by the excellent refreshment facilities for walkers and well way-marked routes to follow. Teesdale could learn from this example and increase visitors to the area.

Market Cross

The unofficial survey in the Teesdale Mercury in 2008 regarding the four draft options for the Market Cross generated a great deal of response. Thank you to all who contributed. The results were as follows:

Option 1: Move it 40 yards = 18%

Option 2: Create a roundabout around it = 16%

Option 3: Create an island beside it with pedestrian crossings and 20mph speed limit = 6% 

Option 4: Install traffic lights and a one-way system past it = 34%

28% of voters suggested that none of the options should be progressed.

These draft ideas for the Market Cross are now being discussed with our partners at local, county and regional level. Some of these ideas may not be taken forward and other options may also be considered. The resulting proposal will be consulted upon before we finalise our plans.
