The unofficial survey in the Teesdale Mercury regarding the four draft options for the Market Cross generated a great deal of response. The Vision partnership were delighted that so many people are prepared to get involved and share their views. In the survey 50 completed tick-box forms were handed in and the results were as follows:

Option 1 - move it 40 yards. Nine votes
Option 2 - Create a roundabout around it. Eight votes

Option 3 - Create an island beside it with pedestrian crossings and 20mph speed limit
The least popular option receiving just 3 votes

Option 4 - install traffic lights and a one-way system past it. 17 votes

13 readers suggested that none of the options should be progressed.

We say
Over the coming months these draft ideas for the Market Cross will also be discussed further with our partners at local, county and regional level.

Some of the ideas we have put forward over the last few weeks may not be taken forward and other options will be considered and consulted upon before we finalise our plans.
