Guild’s Easter Bunny delivers surprise for TODYS

18/04/2009

The Barney Guild’s first Easter Raffle, which aimed to incentivise and reward people for shopping locally, delivered a special surprise for the children of Teesdale charity TODYS, a Giant Chocolate Bunny. The Giant Bunny was the first prize for the Guild’s Easter raffle, which was won by Andy Jacques who lives in London. Originally from Newcastle, he was visiting his father Ken’s caravan in Kinvinnie with his son Harry when he took part in the draw at Penny’s Tearooms.

“Barnard Castle was a great place to visit and made me realise why I miss the North East,” said Andy. “It’s a lovely town and very friendly. I will definitely be returning again.”

Andy very generously asked for the prize to be donated to a local children’s charity and TODYS, Teesdale Opportunities for Disabled Youngsters, was delighted to accept. The group is a parent and volunteer led group and is currently managed by parent Joan Bailey. Joan and Adam Thomson, one of the group members, received their prize from Penny and Rob Ebdon, owners of Penny’s tearooms and Andy Jacques’ Father Ken Jacques.

TODYS, who were leaving next day for a trip, said the Bunny would be coming with them and would be a great treat for the children.

The draw took place live on Radio Teesdale on Friday 17th April by the town’s newest local celebrity, Sony Award nominated presenter, Katey Wallace, and over 4,500 tickets were given out between 4th and 14th April from 38 participating stores.

The second prize was sold from the Crusty Loaf and won by the Stables Café which regularly buy its bread products from the bakery with the third prize winning ticket bought from the Edinburgh Woollen Mill.
