Work Commences on Boyes Shop Front
05/10/2009
Staff at the historic Boyes’ store, located in the centre of Barnard Castle, have announced that a complete renovation of their shop front will commence on Monday 12th October as part of a wider scheme to improve the appearance of retail premises along the high street and across the town.
The store plans to restore the front of the shop using funds obtained through Barnard Castle Vision’s Shop Front Improvement Grant Scheme, launched in April 2009. As part of a renovation of the entire ground floor of the premises currently being undertaken by the owners of Boyes themselves, the grant will fund a brand new main entrance to the store, with the ornate fascia of the current middle section of the frontage being echoed in a new left hand panel.
The current glass screens of the shop front will be replaced with an attractive new cream and blue wooden-framed facade, also incorporating an automatic door to facilitate disabled access. It is anticipated that the works will take around three weeks to complete.
Alan Heavisides will be undertaking the joinery, with electrics and shop fittings throughout the ground floor of the store being carried out by the owners of the shop itself over the coming year.
Annalisa Ward from Barnard Castle Vision commented:
“Boyes is one of the first shops to benefit from the Vision’s new Shop Front Improvement Scheme. The Vision recognises that this is a particularly tough economic climate for our retailers at the moment and with this in mind we are keen to help however we can. We hope that the improvements which the shop has planned will be a welcome lift to the high street and hopefully the start of many more similar projects to come.”Kevin Marson from Boyes commented:
“Boyes has been trading in Barnard Castle for over 26 years and prides itself on its reputation for fine quality. Through this grant, we are delighted to be able to restore the front of the building to its former glory, which we anticipate to be a great driver for future business. We’d like to thank the Vision for their help and encourage all other retailers to take advantage of the scheme to help make Barnard Castle the best it can be.”
