View Designs Which Will Breathe New Life Into Barnard Castle's Witham Hall

04/01/2010

The plans for the regeneration of a listed hall at the heart of Barnard Castle will be unveiled in January 2010.

Earlier this year Barnard Castle Vision and The Witham Trustees announced the team they have brought together to redevelop The Witham, including Stirling Prize-winning architects, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBS).  The architects’ designs will be exhibited in the Castle Gallery at The Witham in early January 2010, and the public will be welcome to view them and find out more about the planned scheme.

Deborah Jenkins, Chair of Barnard Castle Vision said: “We have been working together closely to bring to fruition what will be a truly exciting redevelopment programme.  These designs will shortly be submitted for planning permission, and we are currently working to confirm the necessary funding for the project.  We are not there yet, but if we can secure the money, we will be able to create a fantastic facility to enhance the commercial heart of Barnard Castle.”

David Woods, Chairman of the Witham Trustees added: “The Witham has played a central part in Barnard Castle life for many years, but is in need of extensive repair and renovation.  The redeveloped building will provide an even wider range of facilities for the town.  We would welcome everyone to the exhibition, to see the designs for yourselves, and let us know your thoughts.”

The exhibition is open to the public on Friday 8th, and Saturday 9th January, 2010 between 9am and 6pm, in the Castle Gallery in The Witham, Horse Market, Barnard Castle.
