The WiFi Town
WiFi and broadband are now a way of life for many – these days it’s vital to be kept informed and in touch, and essential for any business.
Recent reports have put broadband access in Teesdale as the worst in the UK, highlighting a massive digital divide between Teesdale and other nearby locations less than 20 miles away.
However, Barnard Castle Vision is keen to put this to rights and is looking to obtain high speed ‘next-generation’ broadband for the Dale. Broadband and WiFi are critical to ensuring that people who choose to live, work or visit Teesdale can stay connected.
In Barnard Castle town centre, the Vision is already delivering free internet connectivity for residents and visitors with a WiFi zone stretching from Galgate into Horsemarket and also covering Scar Top. WiFi antennae are situated in the Tourist Information Centre, The Box and on the high street, and in future, the WiFi zone is planned to be extended to incorporate even more of the town centre.
The services means that Whilst in town, visitors can send emails instead of postcards or update a Facebook page with pictures of their visit, whilst residents can easily keep themselves connected.
Barnard Castle Vision is committed to providing the town with a digital future to match the rest of Britain and has also initiated an award-winning Bluetooth messaging service from the digitised Box in Galgate.
Getting online in Barnard Castle is as simple as registering and logging in. For further assistance, contact the Tourist Information Centre on 01833 696356.
